How to Prevent Event Ticketing Fraud

Fraud rarely looks dramatic — it looks like a crowded door with two people holding the same ticket.

Paid events attract duplicate tickets, screenshot sharing, and last-minute transfers that overwhelm door staff. Prevention is a system, not a stern email.

1. Issue one unique QR per ticket

Static PDFs that anyone can forward invite sharing. Unique, single-use scan codes close that hole at the door.

2. Invalidate on first successful scan

Once a ticket is used, it should not open again — with a clear override path for genuine mistakes managed by supervisors only.

3. Limit uncontrolled transfers

If you allow transfers, require them through the platform so names and QR codes update. Informal WhatsApp forwards are where fraud hides.

4. Match ticket type to entry lane

General, VIP, and press tickets should route differently. Mixed lanes make fake or wrong tickets harder to catch quickly.

5. Watch the first hour of scans

Live dashboards showing duplicate attempts and failed scans help you respond before a pattern becomes a crowd problem.
